Forteo side effects

Posted by ninglike @ninglike, Dec 18, 2024

I was going to start Forteo next month but just saw the following discussion:https://www.inspire.com/groups/bone-health-and-osteoporosis/discussion/forteo-side-effects-urgent/?lid=knr77xgdlylk&utm_campaign=Activity%20Summary%20Email_Daily%20Send&utm_source=email&inspire-id=J3VQXPM9
I'm scared and start wondering if I should start Forteo, your advice is very much appreciated!
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
Best regards
Ning

Hi Ning,
I can't give you advice but I can share my experience with two years of forteo. I had no noticeable side effects. The shots were very simple and not really painful at all. I had modest gains too. Have you taken any osteoporosis meds before? What is your greatest fear? Of course our bodies are all different. Just know you are in good company on this osteoporosis path and there is great wisdom here. Good luck to you.

I did 2 years and it wasn't a problem. I'm glad my Endo recommended Forteo.

I was very frightened also. I requested my endocrinologist show my husband and I how to do it in her office. I wanted to be in her office in case I had a bad reaction My husband had to give me myshot the first month. Now I feel silly it really is no big deal. The side effects for me are just lethargy some joint pain but nothing I can't live with. I just pray it's working. I go in for my ckup for my p1np this month. I would advise you get your CTX and p1np BEFORE you start . Best of luck.

Ning,
I was scared before I started Forteo 14 months ago too. I took me 3 compression fractures to give in to taking the drug. The shots are not that bad. I do mine at night before bed and I let the pen warm up for about 10 minutes otherwise it stings a bit. Others do it in the morning. I had fatigue and some weight gain (mostly in the abdomen).
The good news is I just had a DEXA and my bone density increased 22%! I went from -3.5 to -1.9 in my spine. I am glad now that I did it.
