Forteo side affects

Posted by marsherry68 @marsherry68, 6 days ago

I'm starting a forteo injections in the next few weeks. Side affects are a grave concern.
Does everyone suffer with forteo side affects or are there individuals who have minimal or no side affects
All the best to all

This is always a tricky topic. It is true that most people have no, or minor, side effects. It is also true that a small percentage of people have problems.

You're not going to know which group you're in until you try. The odds are with you, but you'll just have to find out for yourself.

I wish there were a better answer!

What I experienced while on Forteo was actually pretty common — I had some fatigue at first (due to dropping in blood pressure), but it went away after about a month and a half. Drinking more water and upping my salt intake really helped. I was lucky not to have any other bothersome side effects. Hope Forteo ends up being as easy for you as it was for me!

marsherry68, hi. I didn't experience any side effects with Forteo. Like mablin, my blood pressure dropped but I didn't feel anything at all. Some people feel dizzy and some get headaches. But if you start hydrated and take a little caffeine, tea or coffee and a little salt, an olive or corn chip, you can alleviate the effects.
It is possible to have an allergic reaction. I only heard of one person stopping the medication because of this. It is possible to develop hypercalcemia. You'll probably be monitored for that effect. But the kindness of Forteo is that you can quit taking it. It leaves your system quickly, usually within four hours, so you won't suffer long.
You are starting with the absolute best medication available for osteoporosis. The best and the safest. It doesn't build the thickest bones, just the strongest. It works the way our bodies naturally do to replace weak fissured bone. What is your gravest concern about side effects.
I'm into my third year on Forteo. Joining mayblin, I hope this drug is as wonderful for you as it is for me.

Took forteo for two years. No noticeable side effects.

I'm just finishing my first year and the only "side effect" is a little redness at the injection site. I take mine first thing in the morning. I have one more year then my dr wants me to switch to reclast. I wish I could stay on this for a third year. Oh well.

I pretty well had none. For the first 2 weeks there was a little bit of irritation for a couple of hours. After the first to weeks, there were no side effects.

Good morning. I have been on a biosimilar to Forteo for 1.5 years. I experienced extreme fatigue and heart palpations for the first 6 weeks. I almost stopped taking it, but I’m so glad I didn’t because my body got used to it and I haven’t had any symptoms since … just a little redness on occasion at the injection site.

My big decision now is what to do after Forteo. I want to talk to my endocrinologist about a Reclast injection to lock-in my gains or possibly going on Evenity to build even more bone. I believe @windyshores did the latter and I’d love to find out her results. Does anyone know if she is still active on this site? I haven’t seen a post from her for awhile.

hi lynn. Nice post.
Windyshores did take Evenity, but after Tymlos. She had a reaction to Forteo. She took Evenity for three months and had good results. The sequence isn't recommended. But the mechanisms are different and since osteoclasts rise after a good bout of Tymlos or Forteo, and Evenity takes them down I rather like the follow-up. She was clever to take advantage of the more dominantly bone depostion-phase of Evenity. She followed that with Reclast 1mg instead of 5mg. You might look for her old post, they are harder to find since she closed her account.
