Forteo follow-up research

Posted by frannief @frannief, Jan 6 9:23am

Hi. I am new to this forum. I am on my 2nd Forteo pen and wondering if there is enough research on safety long term. I would love to hear if anyone has research to share.

My other question is, has anyone gone on every other day due to side effects or a calcium in the blood and successfully made gains?
Thanks so much.

My T score in spine is-3.8
My TBS is moderate in the middle of their scoring.
I had a possible compression fracture so small that the spine doctor wasn’t sure if it was actually a compression fracture after I did wall push-ups. I have a growth called a hemangioma on the vertebrae that doctor said weakened the bone.

I guess I am wondering with my score if I needed the big guns. Just feel there hasn’t been long term follow up studies on Forteo. I hope you have some studies to share with me. Even the cancer follow-up studies were very limited. I researched that. I know people have tremendous bone density gains! Are there studies on the quality of the bone and how people do re fractures for years after?

I read that Forteo on average increases bone density 9% in spine and 4% in hip. I found a table comparing Forteo and Tymlos with more stats and will try to find it.

Forteo is safe in terms of bone cancer (so far, noone has developed cancer) and can be taken longer than two years now. The black box warning was lifted. With -3.8 I would think "big guns" meaning bone-building drugs would be helpful but ask your doc!

I did Tymlos because the dose is adjustable, but many do really well on Forteo. They work in a very similar way.
