Forteo and fatigue

Posted by jdrosen8 @jdrosen8, Nov 20 3:43pm

I wonder if others who use Forteo have experienced more fatigue. I tried a morning injection, but was fatigued by noon. I have switched my injection to late afternoon, but still experience fatigue which sometimes is debilitating. I have been using forteo for 6 months with no other significant side effects. Any suggestions?

Check the guidelines…with Tymlos it’s highly recommended to inject at night before bed…get well hydrated not just water non fat milk…it takes 3 days to be well hydrated and keep it up. No experience with Forteo though..

Has your doctor checked your PTH and Calcium?
I took Forteo, and ended up with Hypercalacemia, this can make you feel extremely fatigued. Besides blood levels, you should do a 24 hour calcium urine test well.
Good luck.

I just started on Tymlos last week …how long was it before you found out about the hypercalcimia?

Yes, chronic fatigue has been one of the worst side effects for me. Ive been on forteo for nearly a year. It does seem to get better but it never goes away. I take mine at night and it has helped.
So sorry.

Have you had any blood test updates? I’m seeing that others here have recommended CTX and P1NP and a bunch of other blood tests. In my case I’m going to have to insist because he doesn’t think they are necessary at least 3 months…fatigue sounds like it’s working but causing an imbalance in your system

@osteopatient2026 I was prescribed Forteo, and it took a few weeks before I started to not feel well, but a few months in, I knew it was serious, researched and saw that hypercalcimia was a rare side effect. When I called my doctor she ordered the tests, and once confirmed she had me stop the Forteo immediately.
Within a few days I felt 100% better!

What were you switched to? And how did that go?

I took Forteo for 6 months. It did help my bone density, but I stopped due to side effects. I took it at night before bed. I always had to get up to urinate an hour or so after taking it and then a couple of hours later. I thought I could tolerate it, until after the 5th month, I realized that I was lethargic and was suffering from brain fog. Since my mother had dementia, I decided that I didn't want to risk that. The medication does work and from my experience has fewer side effects than the full dose of Tymlos.

@drsuefowler sounds familiar to my experience. Brain fog is another symptom of hypercalcemia.
I only lasted a few months on the drug, I also experienced chest pain and severe heart palpitations and skipped beats for several hours after injection.
