Forteo after breast cancer

Hi
Has anyone that has had breast cancer and treatment like chemo , radiation done forteo. I finished radiation apr 2024.
I am sort of stressed about having to start this medication for my osteopenia and my recent spinal fractures. I have read that a side effect of this if you go longer than twenty four months is bone cancer.

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Osteoporosis & Bone Health Support Group.

No definitive increased risk of osteosarcoma has been confirmed during many years of post marketing surveillance, although limited data available for use beyond 2 years. The observed osteosarcoma incidence in lab rats was due to the high dose (3-60 times higher than what we are using) and length of treatment (rat’s lifetime). The bone biology of rat is also starkly different from that of human which means they are not perfect models for studying drugs like Forteo.

FDA does have warnings for people who had prior radiation therapy. I read that the area of bone that was involved and the extend of radiation (dose?) matter. This needs to be carefully evaluated by your radiation oncologist and endocrinologist so that you could make a decision based on risk vs reward.

Hi
Thanks for the info. So I guess I better make a call to my radiologist. I will be surprised if he actually has info. I had rt breast radiation 10 days. 5 tumor specific and 5 whole breast. Dbl dose. I had dcis hormone positive her 2 neg stage 0. Microscopic break in the milk duct wall.

Definitely a good idea. Endocrinologists who had encountered similar cases like yours would have great insights too.

It's normal. I always feel a little "something" after a Tymlos injection. Can't really describe it, but it's mild and it goes away before long.

Hi
So I have been on forteo for 9 days now I'm finding I get dizzy and have some nausea in the morning. Has anybody else had this and does it go away. I also have alot more fatigue since I started forteo. Also I have been on Zoloft for 3 months and I'm finding it is not working at all and I can't get it up because we have tried and I could not tolerate it so now I just don't know what to do.

Hi
What is the test the doctor can do after you've been on forteo to see if it is working.
