Just diagnosed. Wondering about foods and drinks I should stay away from or eat/drink in moderation. Thank you

You don't mention if/when you've started treatment yet or if you're having difficulty swallowing. Assuming you aren't yet, I think you're fine with whatever you can tolerate. I ate and drank my normal routine until I started chemotherapy and radiation. Even then, I was eating my normal diet, except for giving up lite beer. It was after surgery and a month of tube feeding that my diet changed. I mostly stopped nuts, seeds and roughage. Otherwise, I could pretty much eat what I wanted. You'll need to eat smaller, more frequent meals and ensure you eat slowly. You want to make sure you get foods high in protein so eggs, fish and lean beef are good options if again, you can tolerate them. Mayo will provide you resources on a recommended diet plan. Also, they should assign you a nutritionist to help. Also, Google post esophogectomy diet plan assuming you're having surgery. There's a lot of credible resources there also. Best of luck.

Keep eating normal. Your body will tell you what you can tolerate.

Hi @rbjojo, have you just been diagnosed with esophageal cancer?

Before starting treatment, I might suggest eating healthy and to maintain a healthy weight in preparation for treatment.

Do you have a treatment plan? When will you start treatment?

At this stage I found no major diet issues. It was suggested that I avoid citrus tho.
Post surgery however I can't eat much bread or steak. Anything sweet is out and ice cream makes me vomit. Everyone seems to be a bit different tho

Yes…I do have esophageal cancer. I won’t be given a plan until after my PETct which is tomorrow. This will show if it has spread to any other areas.
