Follow-up recommendations
Due to family history of colon CA and personal history of dozens of precancerous large adenamatous polyps, I was advised to get annual colonoscopies over the last 3 years. This year I had to change gastro MDs due to enrollment into Medicare advantage. New GI attempted a colonoscopy and indicated he was unable to advance the scope past the sigmoid colon due to a tortuous bowel (which I have never been diagnosed with in the past), and despite not being able to access my entire colon, he advised me to have a repeat colonoscopy in 5 years.
I’m uncomfortable with this advice since this scope didn’t result in evaluation of my colon and last scopes resulted in findings that my md indicated I was as high risk for colon CA. No feedback was provided regarding management of symptoms of tortuous bowel or alternate options for performing a complete colonoscopy. Am I over thinking this or should I request a second opinion.

I would definitely get a second opinion. It sounds like it wasn’t a complete colonoscopy. I can’t believe they would just tell you to come back in five years. Do they really think it’s going to change by then?
