Follicular cancer, numbness on left side of neck/throat

Posted by hellmansmayo @hellmansmayo, Apr 28, 2023

Hi, 64 yrs. Follicular cancer 3.5cm nodule original surgery was 4/11 had to cancel due to serious blood issues, due to Lupus. After seeing Oncologist/Hematologist, safe to have surgery which is now scheduled for 5/30. I am concerned about significant numbness on left side of neck/throat this is all new and constant. Anyone else have something similar? DX/w SLE Lupus & Cervical Myelopathy.
Thanks Lori

I have a bit of the numbness in my neck too, however not all of the time…. it feels like I am wearing a collar or turtleneck. It seems to be more pronounced lately but I don’t know why.
Unfortunately, I also still have pain in my neck that radiates into my jaw and back of my throat when I move my head in specific positions. I went to PT for awhile which helped it a bit, however my home exercises have not eliminated it, so I will be going back to ask for more PT. A recent scan had an enlarged lymph node so I am curious if this is causing the issues.

I am much more proactive with checking on symptoms with the doctors, however so far they seem to think all is well. I am working on building my trust in the doctors telling me “it’s not thyroid cancer;” I heard that for ten years and it turned out to be Hurthle Cell Carcinoma. Good luck!

I am so sorry for all you have been through; I am also very proactive w/checking symptoms. I have learned the hard way, you have to be proactive, after having 5 spine surgeries, Lupus and CM. How are you doing now? Sending Hugs and Prayers, Lori
