Flowmax issues: Anyone having tension headaches daily?

Posted by bonanzaman @bonanzaman, Nov 7 9:19am

Hi, I'm taking Flowmax after my radiation event back in the end of July and I've been having tension headaches daily. They were worse when I was taking two capsules, but the doctor reduced the dosage to only one capsule.
Anyone else have the same problem? I guessing it's because of the flowmax, but it might be from other medications like the aberaterone or prednasone.
I don't like it.

Urology put me on Flomax last March. Blood pressure crashed to the point where Cardiology stepped in and said, "That's enough of that. Figure out something else." Headaches and dizziness were common. How's your BP? Best wishes you get it sorted.

Hi, haven't checked in a couple of weeks, but it was a little high at 138 over something. My normal BP prior to all this PC stuff was typically in the 115-125 range. The headaches are pretty annoying and persistent, but not as bad as it was when I was taking two capsules.
If I remember, they said that I would be taking it for three months after radiation and that was about 3 1/2 months ago, but I have a checkup coming up in early December and I hope I'm done with that. Didn't notice any difference between two pills and one pill.
Thanks for the information!

First off, does the Flomax still help? A year after stopping radiation I still dabble with it because it seems to help. But, I'd just as soon quit. Headaches haven't been a problem, even when I was taking two capsules daily. It didn't affect my blood pressure.

Now, my inclination would be that the other two medications would be the more likely culprits. Prednisone has numerous side effects, notably headache and increased blood pressure. Headache is also on the side effect list for abiraterone. But, in all fairness, headache is listed as a side effect for placebos too.

Regardless, a persistent headache along with elevated blood pressure should be evaluated. Best of luck!

I never really had a problem prior to radiation, but I mentioned that I had some urgency, so they said start taking two tablets. I had some minor headaches prior to starting to take two tablets. I finally put 2 and 2 together and asked them if I could go back to one tablet and they said ok. I had been on ADT since March without any thing unexpectedly happening.
After cutting back the headaches were reduced, but totally gone, so they had some effect. I'm hoping that during my next appointment they will stop me from taking it all together. I'm keeping them in the loop and waiting for the day when I don't need to take anything for anything like in the old days.

If, as you say, they are “tension headaches”, I might try addressing the tension than the meds. I think anxiety is common in people with a cancer diagnosis, so it might help to approach that angle with your primary care physician.
