Flattened Stool - Please give advice

Posted by thnt5 @thnt5, 14 hours ago

Hi everyone, I’m just looking for some advice to see if anyone’s experienced the same thing. I’ve been getting these stools more frequently, not sure when they began but I’ve only noticed them in the last month or so.

Please excuse the TMI - when they come out, they feel fine (solid, in one or a few small blocks) but when I come to look at them: the colour, consistency and smoothness seems fine, but the shape looks like they’ve been pushed down and flattened.

Has anyone experienced this and is it a cause for concern? This is not the case all the time but perhaps more frequently since I’ve noticed it. I am about to get an annual health check and just wondering if this is something I should escalate to the doctor, I’m assuming if I tell them about it they would not give much advice given I don’t have any other symptoms that I can find (blood, tarry colour, weight loss, etc.) Please share your advice/ experience and thank you in advance.

Welcome @thnt5, I've occasionally had flat stools but never figured out a cause unless for me it may be my chronic constipation. I did see an article on Healthline that has information on causes, home treatments and more - https://www.healthline.com/health/flat-poop.

I do think it's worth a discussion with your doctor at your annual health check. How soon is your checkup?

If it bothers you definitely ask your doctor. FWIW thin stools MAY be an indiction of colon cancer.
