Finding a bath mat that will not trigger leg and foot pain
I have a body that is extra sensitive to a lot of things. Anything and everything can trigger a flare up in my left leg and foot. My question to everyone is a little odd, so bare with me.
In order for me to stand barefoot in the bathroom, I have to use an old bath towel that I fold up just enough my feet to fit. It worked great for me because it was not fluffy at all since it haven't been washed in such a long time. Earlier this week, my Dad decided to wash old towels and this towel got thrown in to the washing machine and then the dryer.
Well, I can no longer use his towel to stand on because it's way too fluffy. My leg and my foot are super sensitive to the surfaces I stand on. Now, when I tried to stand on the towel folded up, it sets off tremendous pain in my left leg and foot.
I'm on the hunt to find something I can stand on in the bathroom. Unfortunately, all our other towels are washed more frequently, so the fluffiness factor is an issue. I can't stand on the tile surface, but I need something with cushion but not too much cushion. I looked online at different towels and bath mats, but everything looks way too squishy.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what I can use in the bathroom.

@bowm0052 A few things come to mind. What about a kitchen towel or dishtowel? Or an old, soft folded t-shirt, cut up if necessary to remove seams? Have you spoken to anyone about what might be causing this issue?
Sorry to hear about your pain. Instead of standing have you tried a shower chair or bench to elevate standing or does sitting aggravate it as well? I really hope there are some suggestions that will help with a solution.
Hi! Yes I've talked to many doctors and specialists about the pain in my left leg and my foot. So far nobody knows what's causing this issue. The bath towel I used was folded into layers where there was some cushion to it, so I may need something a little more cushion than old t-shirts and a dish towel. The pain in my leg tends to first occur around my knee where it pinches and then spreads up to my quad and sometimes into my shin. The foot pain tends to be a little on the nerve side and burns and tingles. I've been to neurologists and orthopedic doctors, including at the Mayo clinic, and no one's been able to help so far.
Hi! Unfortunately, I have issues all over the place, including pain in my tailbone area, so sitting won't work. For the past three or four years, sitting has been very painful for me, too
Do not get those bath matts listed as spongy.
Described spongy with velour fabric. Feet sink into it and wobble and no support.
The bath floor matt in cotton fabric may work for you unless the pattern hurts your feet. They are thinner than regular bath towels and do not move or slip.
Yes! I noticed that when I did an online search for flat bath towels, but I wasn't sure if they would work or not. Thanks for sharing that information with me. I'll take another look and give one a try
Is texture a good thing or a bad thing? I've got this (https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/misona-stonewashed-cotton-bath-mat?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=031&searchparams=q=bath%2520mat%26sayt=true&type=STANDARD&size=Small&quantity=1) and this (https://www.redbubble.com/i/bath-mat/Amber-Sun-by-spacefrogdesign/39754007.FZTEY) in my bathroom at the moment. The former feels like standing on something very thin and bumpy, which counters the tingling in my feet, while the latter is thin foam, which gives you a slight cradling while retaining contact with the firmness of the floor. They are both machine washable, and I have noticed no change in them when they have been (or haven't been) washed.
There's also something like this (https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/maeve-polka-dot-tufted-bath-mat?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=074&searchparams=q=bath%2520mat%26sayt=true&type=STANDARD&size=21%22+X+34%22&quantity=1), which I haven't tried but would seem to be likely to feel in between the two.
