Fight or flight continuous don’t know what to do

Posted by martas1969 @martas1969, Dec 26, 2024

Hello everyone, I don’t know what to do anymore. In July I had Covid few weeks later I had some numbness in my face neck and back (had c5 c6 disc replaced in the past) mri and it seems okay than I got more tingling numbness arms legs face than my legs felt weak. Neurology put me on prednisone which was a disaster stopped sleeping felt miserable and stupid me after 4 doses of 60 mg I stopped ended up in ER weak dizzy barely could walk high bp shaky. Restarted prednisone tapered off during taking prednisone noticed my HR would go up every time I stood up my legs still not right still insomnia. After prednisone I have still insomnia I can’t fall asleep stay asleep can’t nap never tired (take all kinds of sleep aids) let me sleep for 2-4 hours wide awake not tired like white day at 2 am, unable to say I am tired ( used to fall asleep in front of tv took naps) my heart goes up when stand up from 70 to 120-130 goes up when swallow drink in the shower is the worst my heart is pounding and feels aggravated my HR when sitting or laying 69-70 my heart than feels aggravated I am restless inside but it is not beating fast my legs are feeling week and shakes my feet feel off like electricity when I am standing walking sitting with feet down I shake when up and walking at times my bp normally is in 105 to 110’s when up goes to 120’s good when laying or my feet up I am all the time like fight or flight anxiety (never had anxiety in my life) I lost 30 pounds I feel restless. I thought it was my thyroid all my labs for thyroid besides TPO are good but I twisted endocrinologist arm got ultrasound of thyroid found TI Rads 5 11 points and TI Rads 4 6 points one on left one on right and three more TI Rads 3. My endocrinologist did all the labs they are normal says this is not from nodules. I am having biopsy today because they are probably cancerous. I had echo done normal I am wearing holter monitor but in meantime I am feeling like this since the end of August I get few times episodes all off a sudden of dizzy lightheaded shaky feeling like passing out heart pounding bp goes sky high I lay down it will get better in 20 minutes but the rest of symptoms are still there. I don’t know what is wrong with me the doctors I saw don’t know I cry a lot because my life is in this continues fight and flight my family is supportive but they don’t know what to do. Please anybody know what should I do I am desperate.

I have the same problem as you. I am 71 and diabetic with neuropathy. Then a couple ofvyearscago got chronic insomnia and also could not nap. Wonder if diabetes feeds this problem? How old are you and how long have you had diabetes?

I am 55 I don’t have diabetes. I did have Covid in July and it all started in the mid of August. I thought is is my Thyroid and they found cancerous nodules but all the labs are good so they told me it is not from Thyroid. I lost 30 lbs I am in constant fight or flight. Never tired can’t sleep fall asleep or nap, never tired ever Tachycardia when stand up pounding heart weird anxiety and so on and on. It could be post Covid but I am just so defeated can’t work can’t do anything

Sorry to hear about your experience. I suggest your doctor might consider POTS disease. Remember that hi dose prednisone has terrible consequences on your health in the long run.

I took prednisone stopped it after 4 days which I shouldn’t and than I ended up in er and did taper 40, 20 and so on. I was on it short. But this is killing me. I am seeing cardiology who thought it is from thyroid which I have cancerous nodules biopsy today but endocrinology says it is not all my labs are good. I am just loosing it feeling this way can’t function. Thank you I believe it fits for Pots but where I live there is no specialist who would deal with this.

First of all the Mayo Clinic Connect disclaimer “we don’t diagnose or prescribe”. We do share our stories and experiences to support each other’s journeys through health issues. I’ve never had COVID or issues with the vaccines I’ve received so I can’t relate to that. But I do have experience with Diabetes & Endocrinology, which is the group for this discussion. This includes lots of different conditions. Sometimes these are related. You know how when one thing hurts, everything hurts? It is the body’s way of focusing on helping the hurting part. It can get complex and confusing when the symptoms start to multiply and it is unclear what to attribute them to much less how to treat them. It sounds like you have various specialties involved that are trying to help you (neurology, endocrinology, cardiology, oncology). Are they willing to collaborate to make sure that everyone is “on the same page”? If not maybe you need a 2nd (3rd, 4th ….) opinion from providers who are willing to be team players and consult with colleagues in a different area of expertise.
