Doctors all over the country are stingy with narcotics now. It’s becoming an epidemic imo, lol. My doctor said she is now graded by the insurance companies by the amount of narcotics she provides. It’s a sad, strange world

@ginnetta92 Welcome to Connect. If you wanted to be seen at Mayo, the first step is to make sure you have insurance they accept. You can find that on this page https://www.mayoclinic.org/billing-insurance/insurance/accepted-insurance

If you then want to request an appointment, this link will get you started and a person from Mayo will call you back.

If you are considering a possible surgical option, you may want to apply to the spine center specialists. That doesn't commit you to surgery. If you apply to Neurology, there is a lot of competition for those appointments with other patients who are in pain.

@ginnetta92 I agree, surgery is the last option. Seeing a spine specialist doesn't automatically send you into surgery, that is always your choice. One thing I can say about Mayo is there is no pressure of the facility to make profits by sending patients for surgery. I think their opinions are more objective. When doctors are in private practice and paying for their own facilities, they do have pressure to bring in funding. Mayo surgeons are paid the same if they do surgery or not. It's probably more difficult to get in to see a neurologist. A spine surgeon would likely send you for a neurology evaluation anyway if it is a spine issue.

@ginnetta92 I recommend you go to a pain management clinic, they are authorized to give pain medication and do treatments to help with your pain.
Do your research beforehand, some of them only do the treatments to make money and don’t listen to your complaints. Best wishes for your recovery.
