Eye Pressure Higher on Evenity

Posted by nwhiker @nwhiker, 2 days ago

I have read about Evenity causing edema on these threads. I definitely notice it in my legs. Now my eye pressure has gone up putting the optic nerve at risk. I am seeing my eye doctor for drops and laser treatment to unclog the pressure. Has anyone else had this side effect? I am supposed to have my 7th shot next week. I am also facing heart issues that may require surgery on the mitral valve. My inclination is to stop the Evenity.

Maybe, check in with doctor— maybe a pause or stopping this med ?

I would not want to put the optic nerve at risk. I agree to at least pausing until you can get clear guidance on this.

And call Amgen to see what their experience on this is.

Hi. Before you started Evenity, didn't you have a full examination of your heart?

I have been seeing a cardiologist for several years. None of the heart issues are new, they just seem to have gotten worse with time. The cardiologist felt that a broken hip was worse than the risk to my heart.

My blood pressure had never been an issue by suddenly it was sky high with pain behind my left eye. It turned out to be an aneurysm and a TIA according to the Neurosurgeon. I had been due for my 7th month of Evenity. They immediately stopped it and put me back on Prolia. Also my cancer infusions were stopped because they didn't want to be responsible, either. I was nine months into weekly infusions at the time. My latest bone density scan showed I LOST bone density at the end of my six months on Evenity. Not sure why but I thought it may or may not be related to your eye pressure as that is what mine felt like at the time with the same history of Evenity shots. Best wishes with your future medical results.

When I was on Evenity, my eye pressure was a bit higher than normal range. Ophthalmologist noticed it near the end of Evenity treatment and saw me more often to watch eye pressure (twice yearly instead of annually.) After finishing Evenity, eye pressure eventually returned back to normal range.

I've had Non Hodgkins lymphoma several times through the years, with chemo of course. But I've had surgery in both eyes because of the lymphoma. Using systane for 2 hrs. Have to make an appointment for pain in the eyes again. I am 78 yrs. Old

Thanks to all of you for your informative replies. Being a long weekend, I am waiting until Monday to start calling doctors and the FDA. I found their phone number on another posting. It sounds like edema and increased eye pressure have occurred in others on Evenity.
