If you don’t live near any facilities, check out YouTube videos that you can do at home. There are so many out there! It is especially helpful on days when you need to strength train from a chair.
I’ve been going to PT regularly since restrictions were lifted after my March reconstructive surgery.
PT has been highly valuable. I underestimated how much I de-conditioned while recovering.
Now I have someone who has really helped me build up strength safely (without hurting myself).
She is also a lymphedema certified PT. I dont have lymphedema, but this physical therapist has a lot of experience with post breast cancer surgery patients. And that’s really helpful.

This is an older discussion, but would like share yoga video series that is designed to improve the range of motion and mobility for individuals who have had breast surgery as a treatment for breast cancer. These videos were developed by a team of medical professionals who have partnered with experienced yoga instructors.
There are 4 videos and can be found on Mayo Clinic's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@MayoClinic/search
Have you tried Yoga after breast cancer surgery and did you find helpful?
Hey @cancersucks,
I’m starting that program at the Y on February 26th. I’m feeling hopeful about it since I had a bilateral mastectomy and 7 more surgeries due to complications and have poor upper body strength. I’m BRCA positive, had breast cancer and just canceled a hysterectomy so I could complete the Y program. I’ll let you know how it is after my first sessions. Go to yours so we can both get healthier!!!!
I would suggest doing as much as you possibly feel you can. I currently am in a yoga for osteoporosis prevention class and find it very helpful in many ways. I also have taken part in a strength training class that helped as well. Swimming helps with restoring flexibility and range of motion, too. Good luck -- keep moving!!
Oh thank you for the info unfortunately the closest yoga or exercise classes I could get to are about 40 miles away. I have started walking a bit and counting my steps to increase every day.

@karendb, yoga can be relatively easy to do at home. I would look for gentle yoga or beginners yoga on YouTube.

3 ReactionsThank you for the info. I however don't live near and facilities that offer any type of exercise or yoga.
