Exercise and abiraterone

Posted by guybe @guybe, Mar 27 10:52am

I've been on Orgovyx for a month, and I've been able to continue running and weight training with no performance impact so far. But today I added abiraterone (along with prednisone) to my regimen, and I would like to hear others' experiences with working out while on abiraterone. What should I expect? What worked for you in mitigating the fatigue while maintaining fitness? Any difference in impact between aerobic and strength training? Thanks!

I was on ADT for 2 1/2 years before I started Abiraterone. I had no fatigue with ADT and I didn’t have any more fatigue with Abbie. I did have a lot of other side effects, including high blood pressure, Numerous hot flashes and 4 afib events.

If you have fatigue from Abiraterone You may not be taking enough prednisone. Some people have a lot of fatigue because Abbie reduces your cortisol which is then restored by prednisone. Some people don’t get enough cortisol from 5mg of prednisone. Moving up to 7 1/2 or 10 mg can make a difference. The standard dosage for prednisone with Abbie is five or 10 mg. Some doctors start people off at 10.

Hello, Ive been on Orgo and Abi plus 5mg of prednisone for 5 weeks this weekend. Bp has been a little high so the Dr gave me some meds for that. Otherwise no serious SEs, some hot flashes but not too bad. I work around here all day long and feel pretty good, actually lost 5 lbs in the last month, def eating better! Going to talk about bone density with Dr soon and try to get on Nubeqa. Jeff can explain the benefits better than I. Youll do ok, sounds like you are already fit and taking care of your possible ADT SEs. With me its a wait and see right now, number are going down so Im not getting wrapped around the axle yet, lol. Post your experience with ADT here, it helps all of us, cant have too much information!
