Evenity and random hives

Posted by sandrac @sandrac, Jul 29 8:13am

Has anyone else had random episodes of mild hives with Evenity? I have had 5 treatments so far and due another next week. Every now and then since #4 (going for days with no issues) I get itching and hives-like redness (but no whelps) mostly on arms and hands with a little on my chest that goes away with Allegra. I never had this before. Seeing doc Monday and will see if it is safe to continue as long as they stay at this level and Allegra takes care of. I have had no other discernible side effects and really hope to finish the sequence of 12.

from the package insert
"Serious allergic reactions have happened in people who receive EVENITY®. Call your healthcare provider or go to the nearest emergency room right away if you have any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction including: rash; hives; swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing."
Your provider may not have seen this warning.
You may be through the bone building phase of Evenity and into the antiresorptive. Paul Miller talks about the possibility of a three month of Evenity treatment plan being preferrable. I don't know what a person would take after Evenity.

Thanks! I know about the warnings but was just wondering if anyone had had these random, but mild, episodes.

After Evenity comes Reclast or Prolia with my doc. I have had both at previous other times with no severe reactions.

I have had 4 shots on my belly, and suddenly had developed very hot red ears, itchy and felt like bugs, or pins and needles in my ear, have been prescribed a daily anti inflammatory as Benadryl was not helping, hoping this goes away

Hives is a listed side effect. I have had some hot spots on my arms and elbows and the same kind of itchiness that comes on suddenly after tingling hands and have been advised to stay on an antihistamine and watch for signs of anaphylaxis. I was given epipens to carry in emergency. I take Allegra now around the clock and if an incident starts, I was advised to take a 10 mg dissolvable Zyrtec which acts within 30 minutes, as opposed to the typical hour or more for a pill. Both Allegra and Zyrtec are developed to be effective for hives. Benadryl has more side effects. So far, the management I am using stops it. But if it worsens or doesn’t respond to the above, my endo will probably stop Evenity. I have had seven treatments and no side effects until after number 5. Hoping to make it to all 12. Good luck to you.

I should add that I take a double dose 120 mg) the night before and an hour before on the day of my shots and have been doing since the beginning. Also seems to help with any possible allergic inflammation.
