Evenity Side Effects After the 4th Month

Posted by turtles @turtles, Aug 17 3:39pm

I took my first shot of Evenity 4 months ago. The first month I seemed to do OK, only headaches. Since then I've had a gradual onset of hip stiffness/tightness to the point that it seems to be getting worse. My physical activities have decreased and this concerns me. I did mention this to the nurse. All I know is I had my fourth injection about two week ago and it's getting worse. I did do a search on Google and a few people that submitted a review had similar side effects. I'm wondering if others have had these side effects or can provide me feedback on what to do. I live alone and I'm uncharge of my health care. Thanks!

Keith McCormick told me that 40% of his patients on Evenity have joint pain. It is a listed side effect. In fact it is listed first, and headache is second. This may be at least partly due to the role of sclerostin, but I don't think they know (I read that idea in a study going on).

I have found on any of these meds that walking for longer than 20 minutes help. Not sure why. Maybe it lubricates the joints? I walk at least 45 minutes. My cancer doc said the same thing about those meds.

Of course your pain may be of different origin than mine! Just sharing my experience.

Hello @turtles and welcome to Mayo Connect. I see that you are interested in hearing more about other's experience with Evenity and that @windyshores has already shared with you.

We have other members who have also discussed their experiences with this medication. Here is a link to those posts, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/?search=Evenity

I would encourage you to read the various posts and see if this has been a side effect for them as well. Perhaps these posts will provide some ideas for dealing with this side effect.

How much has your physical activity declined since beginning this medication? Have you asked your doctor's office how these side effects might be lessened?
