Evaluation appointment

Posted by irishgirl12 @irishgirl12, Dec 16, 2023

I have my first evaluation appointment for my ongoing GI issues on Monday at Mayo in Rochester. I just got notified with the actual doctor I will be seeing and when I searched the doctor, the reviews on her were awful. Now I'm terrified I've gone through all this to get to Mayo just to be dismissed like all the doctors around here have because they can't figure out what's wrong.

@irishgirl2 Hello! I want to share with you that of all of the Drs. I have seen at Mayo Rochester in the last three plus years, and there were many, not one was unkind. I have had a kidney transplant three years ago, multiple GI procedures and a complicated upper GI surgery in the last year. I don’t know who you are seeing, but my GI Dr. is a woman and she is wonderful! I can get nervous about seeing a new Dr., but each time my worries were unfounded as they turn out to be very kind. Try to rest easy and give the Dr. a chance. I understand how being dismissed by other Drs. can cause those worries in us as that has happened to me locally, but not at Mayo. Hopefully, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Remember, people who have good experience rarely take time to write a review. In reviews of providers, you only hear one side.

As previous post said, give dr a chance.

Hope you get an answer to your questions / problems.

Don't give up on her yet! Give her a chance. Good rebiews are far between... and sometimes bad reviews can be more about frustration.
Go in prepared. Write down all your symptoms. And all your questions. Then you will be organized and ready to talk with her. Be as well rested as possible before so your mind is clear.
Praying for your visit!

@irishgirl12 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! [I'm Irish, too, BTW] Coming into Mayo Clinic, or any new doctor, can be exciting and nerve-wracking. As others have said, don't let reviews you have read color your opinion, please! Until you are there, you won't know how the interaction will be. In my experience, when I have had a great interaction with a doctor, there has been sometimes another person who didn't have that same thing happen.

Take time to write out questions, write out a timeline of events/symptoms, diagnoses from other doctors. Write down any procedures and procedure dates done to this point. Have contact information to other medical providers who have worked with you. You will be possibly on edge and nervous, so taking time now to gather information will serve two purposes. It will jog your memory of your chief complaint, and help you get your mind ready for this appointment.

Good luck, and please let us know how you do?

That's awesome!☘️I am definitely going to go in with an open mind and not worry about what anyone else has said! We are at the hotel in Rochester now and that helped having the traveling part done. It is severe GI issues I am having, so traveling is not easy! I have my timeline and symptoms written down. I appreciate all the wonderful advice and will keep you all updated!💜
