Esophageal cancer and fluid around lungs
Hi I am new here and my husband has esphogeal cancer stage3 . He has completed as of 4 days ago chemo and radiation also 5 radiation treatments to a lymphnoid . He is to have surgery February 9 th to remove the tumor. Today he was really short of breath by just walking. My daughter is a paramedic and she listened to his lungs . She said she hears some fluid there. Doctors office is closed today. Has anyone had fluid around the lungs with chemo / radiation treatment. Is this common or do I treat this as an emergency and take him to the ER? . Also he is a v-fib survivor. It's been 6 years since his heart stopped and paramedics shocked his heart back to rythem.

Good Morning
I went through both Chemo and Radiation last year and was quite surprised to have developed fluid around my lungs. Treatment was concluded in August of 2023, but my November Scans showed this fluid that I mentioned. I have another CT & PET scan scheduled for February 3, 2024. I was told that if the fluid was still present and had not subsided or reduced significantly in volume, that they would then begin taking correctional measures. I have no idea what they mean by correctional measures. So far I have not noticed any significant loss of breath, but, I am 85 years old, and must use a walker or electric wheelchair, so my mobility and activities are EXTREMELY restricted. I also inhale from a Hydrogen Generator 1.5 hours daily, which produces 2 parts Hydrogen and 1 part Oxygen at the rate of 3/4 liter per minute. Which I am sure aids in my breathing. I began using this machine to reduce the size of my Esophageal Tumor, which it successfully did. However, I also noticed significant improvement in several other areas as a result of inhaling from it. After my morning 1.5 inhaling session, ALL of my arthritic pain was literally gone for the next 18 to 24 hours. My vision in my one good eye (blind in one eye) improved UNBELIEVABLY. My blood pressure reduced so significantly that I no longer need blood pressure medication. Plus in spite of my age, my memory functions greatly improved. I urge you to do some research on Hydrogen Inhalation. You will be amazed with all of the research studies and their findings.
God Bless You and especially your Husband

Mr.Mason,
Thank you so much for taking time to respond to my question. I will research Hydrogen Inhalation. The fact that someone has knowledge to share is a great feeling of relief for me.
Bless you and know that you have made a difference in my life .
Hi @dorenemonchil, how is your husband doing? Were you able to speak with the oncologist about the suspected fluid around the lungs (pleural effusion)?
We ended up going to Emergency because of his breathing . There it was discovered that he has blood clots in his lungs . He was monitored for two days while on blood thinners . He is home now and still taking the blood thinners . This will put surgery off to remove his tumor . Will be calling his cancer team tomorrow to update them on what has happened.
