Esophageal adenocarcinoma with brain metastasis

Posted by jmp1514 @jmp1514, Dec 29, 2023

My husband’s stage 4 esophageal cancer responded very well to FOLFOX with keytruda and trazimera. PET scan revealed no evidence of cancer.
Fast forward to November - significant dizziness and balance issues. Brain MRI revealed multiple areas of brain mets. I wasn’t aware that a PET scan does not pick up brain mets.
While the incidence of brain mets is rare, do not wait to advise your oncologist if you are having any symptoms.
Very little research has been done on this as the incidence is so small (< 3%).
10 sessions of whole brain radiation were completed earlier this month and an infusion of Enhertu. Next MRI is scheduled for the end of January.
We know there isn’t any cure, but hoping for an improved quality of life in the time he does have.

Hi @jmp1514, thank you for posting this information. I believe @angelag and @pghsusan both have family members who experienced brain metastasis with esophageal cancer.

How is your husband doing after the whole brain radiation treatments and the infusion of Enhertu?
