Erleada and Lupron: Does this combo wipe anyone else out?
I am on Erleada 240 mgs per day and Lupron one injection every 6 weeks. Some days I am wiped out from the medication. Anyone else feel this way? ~Don

I've been on an ADT/Erleada combo since 2021. After almost 3 years, I've come to tolerate them much better than I used to. The Firmagon shot did wipe me out for three days every month (similar to flu or COVID symptoms), so I was very excited when Health Canada finally approved Orgovyx, and I was able to shift to a daily pill instead of a monthly injection.
Some days I still feel tired, and I'm working only half time, but in general I feel that I still have the energy to enjoy my life (and I'm grateful for the medications that are extending it).
I was on Lupron and Erleada for a year. I slept poorly and was tired during the day. My thinking was slower and I had some depression. It was all manageable but clearly noticeable. I have been off of these drugs for 18 months and now basically back to normal. PSA is .01 and I am thankful while living with Gleason 9 high risk PS.
Thanks for the feedback. I should remember to be more thankful living with my numbers. It is manageable.
Thank you for the feedback. Somedays I tolerate better than others. Thankful for my life
Fatigue, my favorite side effect, lol. I get firmagon shot, take Abiratone and prednizone .. It is quite the challenge to get through the day. I just keep reading posts, like above, that times will get better, 15 months for me and I know I can hang on for better times. The alternative of not taking the meds is not good at all. Best to all.
That’s an expected side-effect. Lupron (an ADT) suppresses testosterone - which will result in fatigue; Erleada (apalutimide; an ARPI) interferes with the androgen receptor pathways - which will result in fatigue. Unless you’re doing something to minimize those side-effects, they will continue.
I'm on Firmagon once a month and Erleada 240 MG daily. After a year and a half I an exhausted for a few days after the Firmagon shot but I can't comment on Erleada since I am only on it afew weeks. So far OK though. I have half the muscle strength since starting on Firmagon with corresponding loss of energy. However, I invested in a NuStep 5 at home and the daily workouts really help!
I have been on Eligard, 45mg, for 11 weeks and Erleada, 240mg/day,+ Eligard for 6 weeks. Early days for certain but absolutely no side effects other than the tumors must be shrinking in my prostate since Flomax almost working "too well". It is rare that I can get through the night without changing pajamas. Just cannot get to the toilet fast enough to prevent a "soaking" event.
I put myself on a strict plant-based diet and exercise program in preparation for hormone therapy. Perhaps that is part or all of the reason for the lack of side effects. As always there is DNA roulette lurking in the background as the possible main reason.
Being on Arbiterone/ prednisone too, plus a Trelstar butt shot every 3 months: I conquer fatigue via an hour nap daily, when I wake up I feel almost normal.
I had a similar issue with urgency and (sometimes) incontinence last summer due to minor lower-bladder damage from radiation the year before.
My main oncologist referred me to an oncology urologist, who agreed that it didn't make sense for me to be on Flomax when I had no trouble urinating (just the opposite). Instead, he switched me to Myrbetriq, which relaxes the detrusor muscle on top of the bladder and reduces the frequency and urgency of bathroom trips.
Another suggestion is to keep a urinal bottle by the side of the bed so that you don't have to run to the bathroom every time you wake up. I'd had to do that when I was in a wheelchair, so I had a couple left over.
