Eligard: any correlation with carpal tunnel?

Posted by pkren @pkren, May 28 12:44pm

New here. Diagnosed with prostate cancer. Radiation treatment ended. Need to be on eligard for 2 years. I am 3 doses in and just like that diagnosed with severe carpal tunnel in both wrists! Curious if anyone has heard of a correlation?

Pkren, any change over the past days?

I was on lupron and erleada for a year and I had problems in bending my fingers in my right hand then a little bit in my left hand. This was an entirely new issue with me. I was referred to a specialist at UCLA who advised that this problem is not uncommon with this ADT treatment. I had 2 steroid shots for each of the most severe fingers. That made it better but not perfect. I declined surgery. Good luck to you. Meds that keep us alive do have a down side!

Thank you. I had the painful needle test for Carpal Tunnel and the labs results showed 'severe secondary carpal tunnel in both hands'. This is too coincidental in the drs. own words, yet, the prostate oncologist said he has never heard of this, hence my reach out.

I have lost feeling and have tingling in at least 3-4 fingers on each hand. I cannot do my hobby work. I have been referred to a carpal tunnel wrist surgeon. I hate to go the surgeon route but, if I have to be on this for 2 years, its sounding like this is a side effect.

I am sorry to hear this. Do you recall what type of specialist?

Yes, I notice that too, extreme stiffness, hands, hips, knees.

Thank you this is helpful. Its ashame we treat one thing and end up with added symptoms.

I am curious is anyone who has ended treatment with Eligard (2 years needed for me) that the symptoms went away?

I was on Orgovyx. Within days my hands, and some of the fingers became very painful. I bought the copper infused gloves, and found they really helped. At times I put them on in the night. I wouldn't necessarily wear them all the time, but would use them almost daily. Really helped with sleeping. Eventually all the pain was out of my hands, except for the 2 little fingers. Now I am 3 months off ADT and only have slight pain in one of the fingers.

My husband has been on Eligard for 2 years. Now he has numbing and tingling in his hands. Most likely carpal tunnel.
