Elevated Creatnine Kinase levels......

Posted by cindymattern @cindymattern, 16 hours ago

I have been on Praluent 75mg on and off. I've never been able to do statins as I have muscle issues from them. Back in 2022 I had a total right knee replacement and ever since then experienced muscle soreness, stiffness and even been in PT 3x and in again. My left is also giving me some issues and mostly hurts at night. Recently my cardiologist checked my thyroid level as I have 14,000 PVC's in 24 hours and they put me on Diltiazem 25mg ER. I asked for a CK level to be done and it came back a 171 (154 is the high) but I also have muscle soreness, stiffness and weakness. I have moderate arthritis as well which I was reading the elevated CK level can cause chronic pain in someone with already moderate arthritis. Anyone else or thoughts?

Dear cindymattern,

Elevated CK is often associated with pain but I am not aware CK causes pain as such. Elevated CK is associated with various things including exercise, muscle damage, myocardial infarction, and certain medications.

Perhaps try to determine if your muscle soreness is associated in time with either the Praluent, diltiazem, or medications during surgery. It sounds as though you associate muscle soreness with the knee replacement, but it might be good to consider other factors which my have changed in 2022 or after such as medications and exercise. Hopefully with your recollection and consultation with providers you will identify something that can be modified.

Best wishes
