Elevated CEA and low GFR

Posted by twin71 @twin71, Mar 22 8:23am

I am a stage IV colon cancer survivor, in remission 3 years and 9 months. My CEA has been elevated for the past year and my GFR has been low. I know both of these have to do with the kidneys. Has anyone experienced this? I only drink coffee in the morning and water throughout the day.

Is egfr 58 considered Stage 3 for a 88 yr male?

My autocorrect changed the wording on me. It’s elevated creative and low GFR levels that I am wondering about.

@twin71, CEA is a protein marker that can be elevated in some cancers, like colorectal cancer, while creatinine is a waste product of muscle metabolism that indicates kidney function. Elevated creatinine levels and a low glomerular filtration rate (GFR) often indicate reduced kidney function, potentially suggesting kidney disease or kidney failure, but can also be caused by other factors.

Have you had a chance to talk to your doctor for further clarification? Is cancer treatment affecting your kidneys negatively?

I’ve been done with treatment soon to be 4 years and it’s never been a concern but looking at my labs I see the high and low of those two and now worried. I meet with my oncologist next month so definitely will question. I am incontinent from my colon surgeries so I don’t know if that plays into as well.
