Edema After Chemo?

Posted by rdslmks @rdslmks, Nov 7 12:27pm

Hi all. My husband suddenly got severe edema in both lower legs 4 weeks after his last chemo infusion. They ran the entire gamut of tests and rules out heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, blood clots, etc. and put him on Lasix. His Dr is saying not normal but not unheard of either. now 6 weeks out, the left leg is back to normal but the right leg is still mildly puffy. Anybody else experience this after chemo was over?

Yes, it can be common to have edema after chemotherapy for prostate cancer, especially since chemotherapy is often combined with other treatments like steroids, which cause water retention.

@rdslmks, I'm connecting you with @thierryb1959 and @dpfbanks, who also wrote about edema after chemo for prostate cancer.

See their discussions here:

I'm glad to hear that furosemide (Lasix) seems to be helping. Is your husband also doing things at home to help like keeping the legs elevated, movement or exercise from PT, massage, less salt, etc? Were compression socks recommended?

Thank you!!! Yes, he is doing all the things 🙂 . He actually likes the compression socks. He says they feel good.
