dudenal ulcer--Pylori?
I was having stomach pain that got better after I ate. I went to the immediate care clinic and the doctor said he thought it was a duodenal ulcer and prescribed pantoprozole and sucralfate. When I saw my regular doctor I asked if I should be tested for h. pylori and she said pylori doesn't cause duodenal ulcers.
Has anybody else heard this? Everything I have found so far indicates that pylori causes ulcers but makes no distinction for duodenal ulcers.
I will appreciate any input.
thanks
Kathie

My husband had a huge bleeding duodenal ulcer that the doctors thought was caused by H. Pylori (and was likely made worse by Eliquis) and he was put on antibiotics for about five weeks.
The medical field is crazy as they don't help as much as they should etc. What are your symptoms of H-Pylori? I had it back in January took over my whole life! I was constantly sick all the time etc. I had a scope and colonoscopy done for diagnose of H-Pylori and you need a GI doctor to diagnose for the ongoing problems.
Hello @juliezee27 and welcome to the Digestive Health support group on Mayo Connect. I'm sorry to hear of your husband's bleeding ulcer. Is he feeling better now after the five weeks of antibiotics?

Thanks for the information. Sounds like pylori may be the culprit, whether ulcer is duodenal or otherwise.

Thanks, my only symptom is stomach pain which gets better after I eat. No nausea, etc. I've thought about trying to get a blood test for pylori since I would like to get on antibiotics if I need them.

There are home test kits on amazon to test for it I would try that.
Thanks that's a good idea.
You're welcome. 🙂
