Drug safety

Posted by marianne67 @marianne67, Jul 15, 2022

I am scheduled for my third annual infusion of reclast for osteoporosis . I have not had any problems with it. I have recently been diagnosed with degenerative disc in L3 and 4. The doctor prescribed a course of prednisone followed by meloxicam for pain mgt. The warnings for meloxicam are a bit scary and I wonder if I should use it prior to or soon after reclast infusion. Both drugs mention kidney issues. Should I not use meloxicam for a period of time after the infusion?

Hello @marianne67, Welcome to Connect. Mayo Clinic Connect is a social network connecting patients with patients. We are all patients and cannot offer medical advice. This is something to discuss with your doctor or pharmacist. Warning on drug labels can be scary and I completely understand and would probably be asking the same questions if I were you. Since your doctor prescribed the meloxicam can you call them and discuss your concerns?

Thank you. I’m new to this so I didn’t realize that these types of questions weren’t really the point.
I will discuss further with my doctor.

I often discuss this kind of thing with the pharmacist. They tend to know more than the MD about drug interactions.
