Dr. Referral to Heart Clinic (complex and critical case) wait???
The last month I have been in and out of the hospital for heart issues (possible myocarditis or infarct ) that has cause damage to the heart. My cardiac MRI showed delayed enhancement and other issues. My health has taken a drastic turn and my cardiologist said it is critical I go to Mayo and is referring my case on Monday. My question is how long do most people wait to get into the Heart clinic with a critical referral and how long is the average stay?

Annie..... I can give you no assured answer, but I do know that the first criteria for admission to Mayo is medical need and condition. Their living motto of "The needs of the patient are above all else.... William and Charles Mayo! I have been operated on, looked in and through, even had a televisit and believe their is no better place to go.
Hello @anniepeach,
Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'm sorry to hear about your health, and really glad to learn that you are seeking an appointment at Mayo Clinic.
Once your cardiologist sends in a referral (or you can refer yourself, called a self-referral), your first interaction with Mayo Clinic will start with the Central appointment desk. See the number to call or request an appointment online here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/appointments
The Clinic's appointment coordinators and schedulers use decision trees to determine where you will start with your Mayo experience. For example, if Cardiovascular Medicine is where you need to start, they will request your medical records and schedule the appointment for you.
Here's some information about myocarditis care at Mayo Clinic: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/myocarditis/care-at-mayo-clinic/mac-20352547

@anniepeach, I don't know the answers to your two "How long' questions. I hope that you will hear something soon. Do you know if your doctor made the referral today?
Rosemary
Thank you @rosemarya I think he was working on it, so it should be there soon. I know he has some contacts there as well.
Rosemary my cardiologist spoke with Dr. Rick Nishimura and he accepted my case today, so I hope to speak to Mayo by the weeks end and get a date and travel.
@anniepeach, That is wonderful news! I know that you are relieved that that first step is accomplished. Thanks for the update because I was going to contact you later this week!
Keep in touch. And let us know if we can be of any help if you are going to be traveling to Mayo from a distance.
