Do neuropathy symptoms progress from tingling to pain in the feet?

Posted by lisabenshoof @lisabenshoof, Jan 25 9:53am

Hello, I am 56 year old female who has had neuropathy since the age of 15. The symptoms have included burning, tingling, and sometimes shooting pains in both feet.

I developed plantar fasciitis symptoms in my heels about 2 years ago. The last 6 months I have constant pain when I’m standing or walking in the entire heel area. Have other people experienced neuropathy symptoms that became more painful like these? What have you done to help reduce the symptoms?

I’m currently taking Gabapentin and amitriptyline every night. I’m also wearing gel asic sneakers with Dr. Scholls plantar fasciitis inserts inside them, or cushioned slippers every day.

Hi @lisabenshoof, Since you mentioned you have had neuropathy since the age of 15 and that you developed plantar fasciitis symptoms in your heels about 2 years ago, I'm wondering if it's all related to the plantar fasciitis that may have gotten worse 2 years ago. Mayo Clinic has some information on the condition here that might be helpful - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/plantar-fasciitis/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20354851.

There are also other members with the condition that have started discussions that you might want to scan through. Here's a link that shows the discussions - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/discussions/?search=plantar%20fasciitis.

Have you looked into physical therapy or other treatments to help with the pain?
