Does your Artificial Urinary Sphincter AUS800 leak?

Posted by budisnothome @budisnothome, Feb 20, 2024

I know there are a couple of guys that have helped me in the past, My AUS has been activated for only 2 months. It took a few months to heal before the doc would activate it. Do you leak when you sneeze or cough? Can you feel your cuff on your bottom? When I sit down on a hard surface, it seems to activate the cuff and I leak. Is your cuff activated by anything else? Doc used a larger cuff to start, and will probably have another surgery to install a smaller cuff? Has anyone had another surgery to change cuff sizes? Usually, I only need to pump it once before I start to pee. How many times do you need to pump your cuff? Thank you for your help. Very new at this .

Yay. I wish I could sit on hard surfaces without leaking a bit. Thanks for the info. Good luck.

I had a structure also. I found a urologist who specializes in radiation caused problems. He did my urethroplasty and 13 months later he did my aus. Have you looked into getting your structure fixed?

Good question.
We discussed it at length. Went back and forth. Although the surgeon was mostly positive he laid out the negatives. The length and location of the stricture near the bladder neck was a complication. If procedure failed it would make future options much bleaker. I decided to hold off and see if I could cope with the incontinence another way. After trying all the worst alternatives, I discovered the clamp. The urethral balloon was a success, and the clamp allows me to do everything the AUS would and more. I can sit on a hard bench without any discomfort. And there is no hardware inside me that may need adjustments &/or replacements.

I tried a half dozen different pads. Tena Sensitive Overnight #7 absorbency strength has been my go to.I didn’t qualify for an AUS due to a stricture. I wear a simple incontinence clamp. I used to need 5-6 a day, with the clamp one pad a day is the most I ever need.

I have had a couple of urethroplasty surgeries to repair bad urethra. Last one to install aus doc had to wrap a piece of muscle from my lower penis around urethra. Muscle will atrophy and shrink causing loose cuff. Another surgery this summer to put in a smaller cuff and see how long it will last

I hope the new AUS works out for you. There is a an easy alternative if it doesn’t work out. For $39 bucks on Amazon I’ve been wearing an incontinence clamp for three years. I wear it 18-20 hours a day. I Use one Tena pad a day because its off at night and I don’t want to set it too tight. I can sit comfortably anywhere and do anything, bar nothing. Keep it in mind or experiment with one to see if it’s for you. Tru several brands to find the most comfortable one. I use Wiesner clamp.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the AUS. I had mine about 8 weeks ago and has not been activated yet. I regret agreeing with this procedure from day one, after a surprise huge swelling and an extremely painful sensitive scrotum which it continues today. The more I read about other people experiences and how this is not one hundred percent cure for incontinence and still have to use pads, specially after a glass of wine or a cup of coffee also the difficulty to operate, specifically in a men's room, the more I am convinced that this was a big mistake. If the pads need to be used then what's the point? Can the apparatus be left alone inside of body and not be activated? Will it cause any health issues in the future. Does anybody else feel the same or I just have a doctor who doesn't explain himself too well? My surgery was a big mistake. Thank you.

Because I was not able to get an AUS due to a stricture, after trying all the worst options for incontinence, I discovered the clamp. I sincerely hope the AUS eventually works out for you, but in case you give up in it, the clamp has returned my life to 99% normal, No pain when sitting. I wear it 18-20 hours a day, off a few hours at night. I Can ride a bike, run, lift weights, swim, you name it. I wear a Tena pad because its off at nigjt and p I don’t want to set it too tight. Only very infrequently does it reminds me it’s there and I adjust it a bit. A true life saver for $39 bucks on Amazon.

What kind of pad works best with an AUS device?

I don’t have an AUS, just an incontinence clamp. Tena Sensitive Overnight works great. Doesn’t bulge despite its high absorbency. At most use one per day.

I use depends guards during the day. At night time or at home I use the cheaper target or Walmart brand. Not as busy or doing much so the cheaper ones work. They dont hold as much but work fine. I wear jockey or Hanes briefs and the pads dont show at all. Good luck

I had my AUS surgery six months ago. It works fine once you get used to it. I still need one small Depends shield per day which is a huge improvement on six of the large pads daily. Since I also had an IPP implant and can now enjoy regular sex with penetration, it’s great not to urinate during or immediately after sex. I am 95% happy with the AUS and 100% happy with the IPP. Your individual physiology and the skill of the surgeon play a large role. I had both surgeries done at the same time and had only minimal pain, swelling or bruising afterwards. Everything healed without incident. I initially had difficulty with the device but my surgeon helped me overcome them. Tell your surgeon about your problems and if they can’t or won’t help, find one that can help. I am 74, in good health, eat healthy, exercise daily, and don’t drink alcohol or caffeine. I do drink decaffeinated coffee every morning.
