Does this happen often?
I went to a local hospital ER because of sharp pain my upper leg. Friend had similar and it was a blood clot. NP in charge said best to take x-ray. They had no sonogram available. Radiologist ruled out blood clot.

Hi @nyharvey, Welcome to Connect. Interesting question which I think depends on who you ask. I'm glad to hear the radiologist ruled out a blood clot. It sounds like it might be a good idea to seek a second opinion or discuss the symptoms with your primary care doctor. Here are some possibilities:

Have you talked to your doctor to see about an x-ray or seeing a specialist?
I had this very symptom suddenly, earlier this year and had to get off one leg for a couple of days. I went to vascular clinic and sure enough it was deep vein thrombosis, DVT, with swelling and blood clots. They put me on Eliquis to thin the blood. The docs used sonograms, every 90 days. The swelling and pain has gradually diminished while I continued easy daily walking.
Like John, I highly recommend a second opinion and most importantly, a Sonogram (in addition to your X-rays). It’s worth the hassle. You don’t want to die or get serious complications while wondering if all is well. Please post a follow up. Best wishes.

My.brother had pain in his leg and it was a clot.
The CDC says Deep Vein Thrombosis happen in about 900,000 people a year. More so in men and in older people.
