Does anyone have or know about signet ring cell adenocarcinoma?

I know a bit about that cancer, because my mother had it. I know nothing about any treatment plans since she was not eligible for any treatments and went in palliative care. If I can be of any help, let me know. If it is the genetic one, you should figure out what branch of the family it is in, and people should get genetic tests

Thanks very much for your reply, and I'm sorry to hear about your Mother. I believe it is the genetic one, and will ask my cousin if they know which side of the family. My cousin's sister died from the same thing three years ago. There are two other children in that family. I will definitely follow your suggestion and I sincerely hope all is well with you. If you come across anything else about this you think we should know, I'd be grateful to hear from you.

Right now, although it's located in his colon the doctors are trying to find what they think is the real source of the disease.

Thank you for your kind condolences. I do miss my mother every day. She was my best friend. I did not realize the signet ring cancer could also be in the colon. My mother had it in diffuse gastric cancer (in her stomach). The advantage of getting genetic testing, if it is a known genetic mutation, is that they may be able to do screenings that prevent other people in the family from actually having the cancer. I am not sure. There is no screening for it in the stomach. When they find out people have the genetic signet ring cancer mutation in the stomach (which I believe is the genetic diffuse gastric cancer), they offer them the chance to have their stomach removed. That way, they know they will not get the cancer. I am not sure exactly what they offer for the colon. Is your cousin going to Mayo Clinic? I think the experts there are top notch for giving you the best advice.

My Mom was my best friend too and a day doesn't go by without my missing her. She died of biliary duct cancer, however since she also had dementia my sisters and I hope she wasn't that aware of it. I suspect she was though, since she waited until all five daughters were with her and then died.

My cousin figures it was from his Mother's side of the family, although they aren't totally sure - it was a long time ago now that one of her relatives died from what they called a stomach ulcer back then. The siblings have been tested, and interestingly my cousin with the cancer tested ambivalently.

Anyway, it looks as if he will be accepted into a program in Rochester, NY (not MN!) for HIPEC, a radical surgery that sounds a bit like what you're describing. He had to have several rounds of chemo first, to kill off a certain number of cancer cells, before he could qualify for this treatment.

May your memories of your Mom be a blessing to you. I find myself talking with my Mom as if she were here, there's so much as I grow older that I wish I could ask her.

It is interesting about your cousin being ambivalent in the results. I pray that this HIPEC will help him.

My memories of my mom are a blessing to me, as are those of my dad. I was really blessed in the parent department. I strive to find a way to live in the present and not dwell on the past too much. I do talk with my mom as if she were here, just as you do. Sometimes, I just calmly try to think what my parents would have advised. If I had always taken their advice, my life would have been better. My life is good, but I could have avoided some stupid mistakes if I had listened to them.

I had CRS and HIPEC for stage 4 appendix adenocarcinoma goblet cell with signet cell features. I’m 2.5 year out of surgery. I recently found out that my cousin in Europe had stage 4 signet cell gastric carcinoma. His surgery was 10 years ago without recurrence.

My folks would never actually offer advice; however we all (five sisters) knew that if were we to ask, we'd get thoughtful and caring responses. [My Dad's Ukrainian mother, who developed mental health issues due to shrapnel in her brain from WWI, interfered so much in the lives of her sons that I think they wanted to avoid becoming like her. She became paranoid and depressed, but way back then this wasn't recognized let alone treated so she floundered through her life harming many in her way, especially her sons. Very sad. My memories of her are so different...]
