@hondaman If you still have a disc in place that has damage, it may deteriorate further. Sometimes just trimming off a herniated portion is a temporary fix, and it might herniate again if the fibrous walls of the disc are not strong enough to support the disc. Lumbar discs are bearing a lot of body weight. Your question needs to be answered by a spine specialist.
I had a lumbar laminectomy l4 l5 7 years ago. With good results. Not perfect (I am now 76), but good enough that I can walk without leg problems and can go to the gym 6 days a week. Every lumbar laminectomy does not require trimming of a disc. My doctor devout leave , the disc alone, and just give the nerves “more room”. I’m hoping to get at least another 10 years of relief by continuing to take care of myself by exercising and keeping as active as possible.
