Hello @mikesl, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @riflemanz64 and others. You mentioned that your doctor diagnosed you with diverticulitis. I thought you might find this article helpful that is very similar to the pain you are describing.

"The most common symptoms of diverticulitis are abdominal pain and fever. The abdominal pain of diverticulitis is usually lower and/or left-sided abdominal pain. The pain is usually sharp and constant, and the pain may seem to travel, or radiate, to the leg, groin, back, and side."

There is another discussion that you might find helpful where other members have shared their experience:
-- Diverticulitis: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/diverticulitis-1/

Have you discussed the pain with your doctor and possible treatments that might help?

John, thank you for the reply and the link below. I live in Canada Ontario and if you can help me in finding a good GI Doctor that I can go to. Unfortunately many of the Doctors in my Town are too busy and their appointments is like 5-6 month away. I went to the ER 2 nights ago and I was told that my pain is from my Testicle 🙂

I was diagnosed with diverticulitis a couple of years ago. Well it is flaring up and blood work indicates infection. Both docs suggested same antibiotics they tried in Oct. and last April with no success. My pharmacist sister says when that happens they usually will increase the dosage or duration or both. But that is not what I need help with. Since I am dealing with numerous br trips per day, I just don't have much of an appetite. My weight is 132 at 5'8" and my bmi is 20.1. I feel like I need to gain some weight back. Any suggestions? I just got some powdered whey and am starting that mixed with mild and creme. I am also eating yogurt and drinking kombucha. Gastro doc has me on probiotics but can tell no improvement at all, He also suggested metimucil which did no good and I am not a big fiber fan when treating a diverticultis flare up. thanks, jp

I was hospitalized on a low fiber diet for 11 days with diverticulitis attack. I worked up to a regular diet with no restrictions but I was scheduled for an elective Colectomy 8 weeks later and needed 1/3 of my colon removed and reattached to get rid of the damage.

I developed a bad pain in my stomach. After several tests and a Ct scan my Dr diagnosed diverticulitis. He was very vague about what I should be eating. Rest and lots of liquid and antibiotics.
So I retired to bed with water and herbal tea and google. The reputable health sites are confusing. After I feel a bit better soms suggest a low fibre diet and some suggest working up to a high fibre diet. I have problems with high fibre anyway but I am interested in what works and what the latest thoughts are. Please

I got sick on the pre op antibiotic( Flagyl) the procedure went well but I did not bounce back quickly. I was in the hospital for 11 days before I could move my bowels and they wouldn’t discharge me until that happened.
My bowels have never returned to normal and I acquired a distended belly ( probably from surgical lesions)
I’ve managed to adapt to the changes.

Hello
You can try rice , and potatoes for gaining weight. They are both ok for diverticulitis. You should avoid grains. You can look online for low fodmap diet.
That is very helpful. For fiber lettuce is good. Cucumber also good. You can try English cucumber that has no seeds. Papaya is ok. Tomato without skin and seeds. Avoid fried food.
For OTC fiber you can use Citrucel. My doctor recommended that. It’s easy on guts. Drink 2 liters of water every day.
Good luck and be healthy.
