Should I get diverticular resection surgery?

I have had diverticular problems for years. This year I was diagnosed with IBS – see. I have had SIBO testing, numerous x-rays and ultrasounds and MRI. I am a 78 yr old female, fit and healthy. A surgeon looking at my history suggests a diverticular resection. Because of previous abdominal surgeries they may not be able to do it laparoscopically. I also do not have a gallbladder I have had a complete hysterectomy. I’m taking Constella daily. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. My big concern is whether to do the surgery. Or continue the way I have been if until another diverticulitis flareup takes place and antibiotics are used.

I had a sigmoidectomy on June 6 2022 after a diverticulitis flareup that started in the middle of February 2022. Double antibiotics numerous times but still smoldering inside even after removing it. Now am dealing with c diff from all the antibiotics. But diverticulitis is gone. Your choice but surgery was my only way. Good Luck.

I had a sigmoidectomy on June 6 2022 after a diverticulitis flareup that started in the middle of February 2022. Double antibiotics numerous times but still smoldering inside even after removing it. Now am dealing with c diff from all the antibiotics. But diverticulitis is gone. Your choice but surgery was my only way. Good Luck.

I had a flare up that was so painful I ended up in the ER and then hospitalized. My surgeon said I had a better chance of being reattached if I did the surgery electively after I healed( (otherwise there was a higher chance of needing a colostomy )
I did that. No Colostomy but lots of pelvic dysfunction after. Still dealing with that 1 year later!

I had a flare up that was so painful I ended up in the ER and then hospitalized. My surgeon said I had a better chance of being reattached if I did the surgery electively after I healed( (otherwise there was a higher chance of needing a colostomy )

I am beginning to have similar issues after robotic surgery to remove the sigmoid colon in February 2022. My surgery didn't end all the issues, but I believed it was part of the healing process. Now, I may need additional surgery to correct the first and scheduling tests to determine, but I am again on strong antibiotics.

I wish you well. I had sigmoidectomy in Oct. i really worried about c. Diff as well. But somehow it has not happened. I wish both of us a future free from antibiotics.
