Statin discontinued due to neuropathy. What are some alternatives?
I have been using Lipitor since 2007 for lowering my cholesterol which is on the list of those medicines that are suspected to cause neuropathy. I am thinking of discontinuing this menace but before doing so want to check with those members who have discontinued using statin and what is their experience. What alternative methods have they since adopted for lowering their cholesterol .. diet, alternative medication, exercise or anything else ?

Please let me know how this works. I know my GP will push statins on me next time I see him. I swear I will not go back to Statins because of the horrible leg cramps.

1 ReactionHi,
Different measurements are used around the world. IE a US gallon is only 5/6ths of a "real gallon"! It was like learning a different language when I lived in USA. When in Rome, I guess. No doubt there is a conversion chart somewhere out there.

1 ReactionLipid panel covers all the cholesterol tests
Complete or comprehensive metabolic panel covers most of the other parameters. Thyroid levels & vitamin levels would need yo be requested separately.

1 ReactionClearly a different type of rating scale. You are referring to an American scale, but there may be others.

1 ReactionI understand those tests and results. My total cholesterol was around 150 last time, but where do get the number 9.8, that you describe above?
Hi,
I just ask my Dr to arrange for bloods to be drawn and tested for my Cholesterol levels. Normally as they are drawing blood I get my kidney function, B12 level, vitamin D3, hemoglobin and anything else done at the same time, so I have a good understanding of where I'm at overall.
The cholesterol results should give you three readings, the so called good and bad Cholesterol, then they give me a final figure. For me it usually takes a few days for the results to come back. It is the only way to be sure what I think might be going on is correct or not.
Cheers
I see. If I wanted to get tested, whatv would I ask for?
