Diagnosed with fluid in uterus, waiting for endometrial biopsy

Posted by calygirl84 @calygirl84, Dec 5, 2024

I had my usual ultrasound yearly to evaluate the small cyst on my left ovary.
I’ve been having these for years and the cyst has never changed. It stayed small.
However, this particular ultrasound indicated that there was fluid in my uterus, and my doctor wants to perform an endometrial biopsy.
Please give any type of input thank you

Hi @calygirl84, did you have the endometrial biopsy? What did you learn is going on?

Dear Colleen,
Thank-you for reaching out.
I did receive results in my, MyChartepic account. This Southern Ct women’s health associates is a division of Yale.

The results were fairly straightforward. It indicated that the diagnosis was that uterine wall, was thickening with hyperplasia, and benign debris was detected.

I was happy with that result, however, I also realize that hyperplasia is and can be a precancerous condition.

The fact that I’m 67 1/2, I was adopted and I am 1/2 Askanazi Jewish.
That gene pool has quite a few high risk categories, especially when it comes to uterine cancer, endometrial, cancer, ovarian, cancer, and cancers of the female organs.

I am no doctor, I did have genetic testing that indicated this, and even though the 56 markers came back negative, they said they can’t rule out the possibility that my risks are increased anyway, because of genetic predisposition.

I never met my biological mother or any family member so I have no actual family history that I know of.

My breast surgeon errs on the side of caution all the time.

I’m going in for a consult with my doctor, because the nurse called me and said that my biopsy was benign.

That may be all well and good.
I just don’t want any chances taken with my health, and this is the fourth endometrial biopsy I’ve had in my life and I just can’t keep going through these..

I don’t want people playing Russian roulette with my health.

I would prefer that they just do a hysterectomy on the fact that my genetic background indicates that there could potentially be a problem in the future.

What are your thoughts?

I appreciate your response to me and I’m grateful that right now ; I am in decent health, but I can’t deny that I’m concerned and more than just a little concerned..

I’m an advocate for my health and I take especially good care of myself.

I don’t want to have to dodge a bullet, wondering if anything will arise from this initial overview.

I have had ultrasounds for the last six years because I have a small ovarian cyst on my left ovary, and that has been of no consequence.

I suspect the fluid in my uterus was observed when the ultrasound was being read and viewed.

Thank you very much for your concern, as usual I have always been a fan of Mayo Clinic connect and I’ve been helped in many ways in the past.

Warm Regards
Calygirl 💝❤️💚💫

@calygirl84 I can understand your worries. You've had genetic testing that fortunately shows you are negative for diseases associated with your genes. That must be a relief but it doesn't remove all of your worries. My brother had prostate cancer in 2020 and I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2019. We are Ashkenazi Jewish and I wonder too if these cancers are genetic and related So far I can't find anything in the scientific literature that indicates this and we are both negative for the genetic tests my brother and I have both had.

**A little side note. I am from the Bay Area in California but now I live in Michigan. We grew up in Anaheim in the 1950's and 1960's. My brother and I went to Disneyland together a few months ago. It was the first time we had been to Disneyland together since we were children. What a trip down memory lane even though Disneyland and the surrounding area has changed so much. ☀️😎**

Are you having the endometrial biopsy in the office or are you scheduled for hysteroscopy and D&C? Have you talked with your doctor about the possibility of a hysterectomy?

@angierivas1. We did enjoy our visit. I wanted a mostly nostalgic visit to Disneyland but then when we went to Galaxy's Edge. That was a new experience for my brother too. And wouldn't you know, then, that my favorite part of the day was in Galaxy's Edge and on Star Wars:Rise of the Resistance? Whew! My brother thought that my reaction was hilarious since I wanted to go all-nostalgic for the day.
