Diagnosed with DCIS HER2+ Stage 2.

Posted by clynnford @clynnford, Aug 14, 2023

My lump was too big for a lumpectomy and I've had 3 rounds of chemo so far.
My lump is gone and scans are no seeing anything anymore!
Wow, I was so excited thinking no more chemo!
Unfortunately my Doc says 3 more rounds is standard for my diagnosis, what?
Anybody else dealing with similar situation? I was expecting surgery then post treatment....😦not this!

Hello @clynnford I am not understanding you diagnosis. DCIS is an in situ pre-cancer with cells still encapsulated. Stage 2 would be an invasive cancer, and therefore not DCIS.
Without more information, I would not have any idea about if your treatments are standard or not. Please feel free to tag me with more information if I can help.

@clynnford I have been thinking about you quite a bit and the conflicting information you have. Due to the chemo being recommended, I am suspecting the stage 2 invasive cancer is correct, maybe IDC. More importantly, how are you doing? Are you making it through chemo okay?

Hi Chris,

So I finally found my document and yes you are correct HER2 Stage 2 IDC. My Doctor is recommending another 3 rounds of chemo to work on a cellular level since there is no longer a tumor. Tomorrow is my 3rd, so half way there, YAY!!!
I was hoping to be done with chemo, but I guess better safe than sorry. Do you have any knowledge as to how long between my last chemo and surgery? I assume surgery would be to remove the clip/marker, biopsy surrounding tissue and do lymph node biopsy.

Thanks so much for following up on me.

Cheers, Cheryl

They might wait a short duration for your blood counts to be really stable and you to be a little stronger before they do surgery. I Still have a marker in my chest where my original biopsy was done.
I am glad you are half done, you got this. Will you come back here and let me know how you are doing?
