Dexa scan facility

Is it necessary to do Dexa scan at same facility for comparison?

@hopefullibrarian it's helpful but not "necessary." Even at the same facility, there are variables such as a different "area of interest" being scanned, or one technician puts your legs on a knee support and one doesn't. If you are going to a different facility than before, maybe you can make sure those things are consistent and any others your doctor or the radiologist might tell you.

My experience is that DEXA's jump around a bit. A difference of -.5 is significant, maybe -.3 (there are differing opinions on this). I have kept a chart since 2001 (!) and look at trends except at menopause and first year of cancer treatment, when drops were larger.

I go a distance to my osteo doctor and was considering doing the DEXA locally. Staff said that once they knew how to translate the new DEXA to the DEXAS I'd gotten on the doctor's machine (making a rough calibration), it would work well.
