DEXA response not sufficient on bone meds insulin resistance a cause?
Hi everyone, I had one Reclast infusion and one and a half years on TYMLOS. Everything has been going up to snuff with test until my DEXA scan last month when I was told the 1.3% change was not sufficient. They expect a 6.8% increase all things being equal. My CTX/P1NP were right on target. They said it happens and they were going to consider changing me to Evenity. They were going to ask my orthopedic spine surgeon if I have any upcoming surgeries to consider. In the meantime, my A1c lab test you would think totally unrelated was flagged as borderline. I told my doctor I want to go on a medicine. I am learning that anything borderline in my situation is Not only abnormal for me, but needs treatment. It was amazing that a whole constellation of problems were resolved by taking the metformin. A non-consequential medicine. Two weeks later I had an intuition to look up “insulin resistance, inhibiting bone medicine response“ and sure enough There was an avalanche of information indicating my poor response to the bone meds may be due to my insulin resistance. When insulin isn’t produced properly in one’s body, it can totally create havoc. I was wondering if anyone else came across this situation where they didn’t perform well on their bone tests and then improved when their insulin resistance or diabetes was addressed. Thank you.
