Depression with multiple illnesses from childhood.

My daughter, Nastasia's lifelong experience of chronic multiple illnesses and depression is rooted in the early childhood abuse she experienced. Nastasia's birth father (I adopted her at age 7) beat her mother and terrorized Nastasia, so by 12 months Nastasia had developed a Disorder of Attachment, as much Mistrust in her world as Trust. As the terror continued, her Disorder grew into Complex Developmental Trauma (CDT); her immune system development was stunted and she's been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Endometriosis; "hypochondria"; Migraine; Chronic Pain Syndrome; etc... and her Central Nervous System failed to fully develop. Her Amygdala became chronically hyper-aroused; her Adrenal Glands pumped lots of unneeded adrenaline. Her Frontal Cortex was hijacked by frequent false alarms of threat, and developed habitual Cognitive Distortions that left her helpless to assess and manage reality. While CDT is very difficult to treat by adolescence, my daughter's doing pretty well now at age 43. Highly specialized, neuroscience-informed psychotherapy for CDT may help many people with multiple, chronic illnesses and depression.

Welcome @edouglas, it is encouraging to hear that your daughter is doing well and that care and therapy helped her. I see in your profile you write of personal experience with CDT or are you referring to your daughter's experience? As a parent, what helped you as you supported your daughter?
