Decision to Delay Prolia
A year ago I had my first Dexa scan which showed a -2.5 score in my lower spine, osteopenia in other areas. I had a wrist fracture 3 months earlier, so the recommendation was to start treatment. Given that I have stage 3a CKD, Prolia was the recommended option by my PCP. I had one injection on 7/31 but decided to consult a specialist before continuing with Prolia as scheduled this past January following further research about side effects, etc. The rheumatologist recommended I continue Prolia but did agree to do another Dexa, a skeletal X-ray and blood tests. The Dexa came back showing improvement in all areas including a -2.3 in my lower spine. My questions to this group - can one injection of Prolia, given 8 months ago, account for this improvement?
I do believe my second scan was more thorough and done by a better technician (first one did not adjust my positioning during the scan and seemed inexperienced), and I had increased my weight bearing exercise and diet.
I am an otherwise healthy and active 65 year old women and am concerned about taking Prolia at my relatively young and and am inclined to wait a year and get another scan to reassess. I have a follow up with my Dr. but would greatly appreciate any feedback from this very helpful group. Many thanks!

dkrogman59, Prolia adds bone very quickly and has been measured at one month.
One of the troubles is the only drug that can leave you worse off when you quit than if you'd never take the medication. It isn't wise to be even one month late. Some people suffer multiple fractures within months if they stop the Prolia without replacing it with a medication to prevent the damage it can do. You only had one injection. But was your second due the first of February? Does the prescriber know that you've quit Prolia. Were you advised of the risk of being late for the second injection.
