Death of my dog Milly.

Posted by nksneuro @nksneuro, Apr 23 9:48am

Milly came into my life about 8 years ago. While it was not necessarily love at first sight, Milly was a bit aggressive and too needy for me. Over time she mellowed as did I. Three weeks ago I had to take Milly to be euthanized. She had heart failure and breathing had become difficult for her. The process was beautiful and comforting; however, I’m left without a dear friend and companion. I am attaching a photo and posting to Instagram recently which sums up my feelings.

I'm so sorry.

The loss of a pet can be extremely difficult. They are so loyal and devoted, and definitely deserve to live longer.

Something that has helped me a lot is this video, which uses EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to aid in the grieving process:

Be good to yourself.

Here's a photo of one of my dogs. I miss her still.

@nksneuro I'm so sorry that Milly is no longer with you. She is looking right at the camera - and you - in this photo and looks like such a sweetie.

We have adopted senior dogs in the past and while we did not have a lot of time with them (3-4 years ) we never regretted that. We still formed that strong bond with each one of our dogs. I cried for days after saying goodbye to each of our dogs. I will freely admit that I am not a crier and yet when I have had to say goodbye to one of our animals the tears flow freely and I am bereft. I can feel your loss and pain.

I did all sorts of things to commemorate the lives of my pets. These include framed pictures of them that I have placed in my house, making donations to my local animal shelter in their memory, or donating to other causes that are animal-focused.

Is there anything you are doing or have done in Milly's memory?

Thank you for the lovely and thoughtful message. I have donated to Animal Rescue in her memory. Yesterday, I picked up her ashes and paw print which reopened the wound. As time has passed I seem to miss her more and more. I understand it’s a process yet a painful one. However, no amount of pain can take away the infinite joy she brought me and many others.

Thank you for the video. I was only able to start it but will continue to practice. Everything is just real raw now. Thank you for sharing the photo of your beautiful pup. Yes, I’m sure you still miss her just as I still miss Marti and Isabella and Einstein. Memories never leave but become more joyous over time. Thank you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I’m an animal lover myself and I’ve experienced the same situation many times over the last 60 years.
I know you’re in a lot of pain now and there’s not much to say (in my opinion) that will make it better. Know that I am thinking of you and that in time, your memories of her will be less painful and more precious.

I am so sorry for your loss of Milly. I lost my Junior last year. Didn't think I could live through the pain of losing him. Here we are! Sending hugs! J
