Cuti- bacterium infection TSR

Hello,
Writing for my husband. He had a TSR in March of 2021 which post operative was never out of pain and it only worsening. Finally in November of 2024 surgeon removed the prostheses and put in a Reverse Shoulder. The biopsy and pathology reports came back showing chronic end stage inflammation in the joint, osteomyelitis of the bone, and this Cuti- bacterium. If anyone out there has dealt with this I would love to hear about the pain you may have had. My husband pain is worsening again to the point where he can’t even use his arm to wipe the kitchen counter. His pain is in the anterior shoulder with severe tenderness/ pain around the incision. Seems so odd to be caused from the infection. Please share any info you may have. We are so beside ourselves here has lost his quality of life at 63 yrs old. Thank you

I had a total hip replacement 7 months ago. I have developed a red rash around the incision; very painful and covers my upper high. Has any one else had this reaction ?

Dear needle,

No, at least I have not had this or heard of it, and a red painful rash 7 months after surgery is concerning.

Suggest to have your surgeon or other expert examine urgently, determine if the rash and pain are infection or allergy or reaction to materials used in surgery.

Best wishes

Hello, I have posted about my 3 surgeries this year. My revision from 2021 failed because of the Cuti bacteria. After identifying it as the cause, my second surgery was done to remove the previous prosthetic stem from my humerus. A cement spacer was put in the stems place, filled with antibiotics, which would release slowly. I was also given two antibiotics trough a PICC line for 6 weeks. The third surgery was a reverse revision of the failed reverse revision. Thankfully, the Cuti bactrria is go e. I'm about 7 weeks out from the last surgery and in PT. I probably have 4 more weeks of PT and will follow up with exercises at home.

I'm 71 and, fortunately, I don't have any significant pain, just pain from exercising. I hope to play golf again in October or November.
