CTX high but can't find reason

Posted by debraran @debraran, Jul 9, 2023

I had Dexa 2017 and was in osteopenia in spine and little in hips. In 2022 I went to satellite of my hosptial instead ( a mistake I see now) and they said my spine was -2.9 and hips/f neck in osteopenia. My doc had me redo test at previous bone clinic at Yale 7 months later. I went and my spine was back to -2.1 and hips in osteopenia, little in F neck. I know I kicked butt with exercise etc, even weighted vest, took TheraCal. but I didn't change it that much with my efforts. I assume some tech error or big difference in machine. I will never change places again.
What is perplexing us is my CTX is 760 then and 770 now with blood tests for parathyroid in Fall normal ( calcium is 4.8) she checked for blood diseases, etc. She upped my calcium but I don't seem to be absorbing it for my numbers to be low normal.
Has anyone ever had osteopenia and high CTX? I fasted 12 hours, stopped vitamins day before. I feel great. I'm just so confused and she'll call me next week but I don't want to go on drugs with Dexa looking not bad, but blood test is not.
Thanks for any support. I feel lost with all the conflicting info.

Well, my doc called doctors at bone center to explain to her why they had my spine so bad in one Dexa and at another office it was much better. (where I always went) Not really anything they could pinpoint, I was a little less weight then I did workout like a demon but those scores wouldn't have improved that much in a year.
So I'm going to stick with original bone center at Yale, keep doing what I'm doing and she said not to worry about blood test right now.
I'm blessed I think to have a doctor who isn't rushed, who really sees her patients as a person and wont knee jerk medications.
