Could you please give some information about this?

I continue to experience persistent tailbone pain. Despite having received two injections aimed at alleviating the discomfort in the back of my tailbone, the situation has not improved; in fact, it has worsened. This pain is now affecting both my ability to sit and stand comfortably. Unfortunately, I am unsure in Mayo which department to visit and which specific doctor to consult to address this issue. Your contact information is my sole point of reference. Could you kindly recommend an appropriate medical department and doctor for me to seek assistance? Given the severity of my condition, I am in urgent need of scheduling an appointment. I greatly appreciate your help.

Just guessing here and I could be totally off base. I’m wondering if you’ve had a dexascan (don’t know your age but men can also have osteoporosis) or X-ray of your spine or an MRI? Is it possible you have a fracture? Did you have a fall where you landed on your behind that didn’t really hurt much but could have caused some damage?
I’m also guessing your injection was cortisone. And most docs don’t like giving that more than twice due to its side effects. But sounds like there’s something in your back that might be inflamed. That happened to me but with my shoulder. After an X-ray and MRI, 2 shots, the MRI showed my rotator cuff was inflamed and my internist sent me to an orthopedist. She put me through a range of motion exercises and based on my ability to move my arm in various directions without lack of mobility, she prescribed physical therapy to deal with the inflammation which helped tremendously. The goal was to beef up the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint to support it better.
Best to you. I understand how frustrating it is when there’s pain the interferes with quality of life.

I was in an accident and braced with right leg, as I knew they were going to smash into the car I was a passenger in. Nerve damage in my spine I’m still dealing with…
But, I had all of the tests, different meds-going up and up in doses,
And finally had sounds like I had the same injections in sacrum you had, and it also made things worse. Finally quit all meds and tried RX diclofenac patches (ones I had from other pain areas) in the inflamed sacrum area, and started to feel better in a day or two. The over the counter gel has to be applied frequently and rubs off. They are an nsaid, which helps with inflammation.
I can appreciate your frustration with trying to find something to help with pain…good luck!

Thank you so much for your guidance and responses. I'm uncertain about the cause of my tailbone pain, as I can't recall any specific injury. Strangely, it actually worsened after two pain relief injections, which has left me feeling somewhat anxious. In light of this, I've been considering scheduling an appointment at Mayo Clinic. However, I'm unsure about the appropriate department and physician to consult with, which led me to seek assistance in this chat group. My intention is to arrange for an MRI or X-ray examination in Mayo. I'm planning to call and make an appointment soon. Your help has been greatly appreciated. Wishing you good health and happiness!

Is your tailbone out of place? It can be put back in line. I had it done.

Hello, @mayoli. Are you already a patient at Mayo Clinic? If yes, do you use the Patient Portal? You could ask one of your providers your questions and ask for a referral. My limited impression from what you wrote is that orthopedics might be a good place to start.

If you aren't already a patient at Mayo Clinic you can request your own appointment online or calling for an appointment:

Do you have a primary care provider? You could your primary care physician for a referral to Mayo Clinic. With records or X-rays provided by your primary care physician along with the referral this can be a good method for getting an appointment at Mayo Clinic.

When do you think you will request the appointment?

I fell and broke my tailbone. Took 4 months for it to heal.
