Could Fosamax be the culprit?
I took weekly once generic Fosamax for a little over 6 years and stopped 18 months ago. Soon after that cramping in my calf muscles started and then followed pain in the shin areas and then pain in the foot . My PCP thinks it is idiopathic PN . Could Fosamax be the culprit? Has anyone in this forum have any reasons to believe it’s possible?

@sbelur, it can be so frustrating to have a condition with no known cause. It's natural to search for a reason, but sometimes there isn't one. Fosamax (alendronate) can cause muscle ache or cramping, but less likely to cause neuropathic or nerve pain. And you are no longer taking Fosomax.
What medication are you taking to control osteoporosis?
I took Alendronate for 6 years and stopped for what they call as a “drug holiday”. Now on no osteoporosis medication .
don't remember exactly when, my guess is aprx 2000 . I would have been early 60's. I had the Dexa scans. Each time i would lose bone density and then I got down to osteopenia. Actually, it might have been a little earlier. anyway, I took all the supplements the MD's suggested, like calcium then with more reading suggestions were to also take magnesium, boron, and a couple others. NO help. Kept losing. Finally, for me, it seems to always be just ONE dr., again a Naturopath, who said it is NOT calcium to rebuild bone density it is STRONTIUM......now saying that, I think there are different types which are somehow different..........the one I am taking is from ALGAECAL called Strontium boost. You only take 2 capsules each night.........NO more, NO less...........after aprx 1 year, I had another Dexa scan. I went from osteopenia back to normal...........My last Dexa was Oct 2020, and it showed even better. their instructions say to also take calcium, but NOT at the same time as strontium...........BUT, since the article I read from that ONE dr. said calcium was not the bone builder, as to me I proved her right, from Dexa scans losing density every time..............I only take the multi vitamin with the calcium they have in it, plus whatever foods i eat that has calcium. I don't know if there are some reasons for some people to NOT take this product. Seems like everything in the world has some negative effect on someone, be it fruits, nuts etc., But, per Dexa scans, this has worked for me. I do NOT take any medications. I was horrified when i read what Fosamax can cause. So, as of now, I am able to stay off all Meds. Even reading several of these messages from this Mayo sight, where people took Meds for one thing, that lead to other major problems, really keeps me looking for more Natural products. I Never suggest anyone takes or does , any of the things, products I do. But, I put some of them out there, just in case it is helpful to others. but again, what is helpful for me, could be a negative effect on someone else..................I guess you could start by going on google, and asking something like, does strontium help increase bond density...........but, watch out, as google may not know there are different types of strontium in some of the answers.........keep scrolling down , and i'm sure you will eventually find some of the answers which would apply to usage for this particular type of strontium............altho you could also contact the company AlgaeCal, but, as you know............all companies will always tell the amazing things about their products..............you want info from other sources. Maybe even other Holistic Dr.s who might use it in their clinics.
