Coming to Rochester Mayo Clinic and need suggestions

Posted by melissam011 @melissam011, Oct 15 9:28pm

Hello everyone
I am travelling from Canada to Rochester and have most of my appts in the mayo clinic building and Gonda. I am coming alone and can walk but cannot walk far distances because of my back. I am looking for a hotel close to these buildings that has a shuttle if I need it and breakfast. I am also wondering about restaurants and places to visit while I am there. Any suggestions are great! Any places I can shop or visit are also welcome. Thanks in advance

My stay at Staybridge Suites Mayo Rochester was all I could hope; food, people, courtesy.
Shuttle to all of Mayo available more often than I had hoped.
I was alone and there for 9 nights. Now problem.

We stayed at the Brentwood which is attached to the subway that takes you right in to the Mayo building. Very convenient but there is walking involved

Thank you everyone! I appreciate it.

@morironman - I have also stayed there, and had a clean room and a block or two away from both St. Mary’s hospital and the main clinic. The only thing I’ll be bold enough to share, there are 3-4 American minority front desk workers there who were clearly prejudicial toward me and another lady I spoke to. I know no one likes to bring this topic up, but it was blatant. They treated their own race with respect, laughter and gave them a special deal; and denied privilege to us that they gave to their own race. I know no one wants to bring this up, but it was obvious and I’m sure myself and this other lady are not the only ones to experience this reverse discrimination. The only way to resolve it, is to bring it up and discuss it.

@jksawyers

I hope you report your concern to management at Staybridge Suites

I did, the response was not individualized so I doubt anything was done. I believe one of the individuals is actually a manager. He may have been the one who answered my concerns, lol.
It’s a nice place to stay, and it’s convenient. Thanks for your response.

I was just there in Aug, and stayed at the Econolodge, it looks dated from the outside, but my room was very nice and had recently been remodeled. They have a shuttle that starts to run at 5:45am for any early appts, and goes until late afternoon. They had a continental breakfast that wasn't anything fancy but was ok. Also with the clinic rate I was able to stay 2 nights for around $150, my second night a couple dollars cheaper than the first one. The manager is female, and very nice & courteous. I would definately stay there again. It is located south of the clinic, and takes about 10 minutes to get to the parking ramp, and near the mall and restaurants.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on 16th St. The entrance to St Mary's was a 0 .2 mi /5 minute walk and visible from the motel driveway. Basic, clean and convenient, free parking and breakfast. Shuttle service - we walked to the Gonda Building and the others for pre-op tests. You have plenty of good options.

@melissam011, have you heard about the underground pathways? They are called the "subway", but not to be confused with a transit system, like the TTC in Toronto, but rather an underground passage between many of the hospital buildings, hotels and restaurants. For example the Gonda building is connected to the Kahler Grand Hotel and the Marriot and others. There are also many businesses in the subway, like coffee shops, the Patient Education Center, and much more.

The subway is a nice way to avoid the cold, rain and snow. Otherwise, in the nice weather, Rochester is walkable and pleasant on street level. If mobility is an issue, there are wheelchairs to use at most entrances to buildings and hotels.

What month will you be in Rochester?
