Colorectal Symptoms
Hi!
My sister have the majority of the colon cancer symptoms and lots of abdominal pain and bleeding and the colonoscopy and CT scan don't show cancer. Has anyone else has experience the same and later on diagnose with colorectal cancer? Thanks!

Hello! I am sorry your sister is ill but she is lucky to have you to support her. Sadly, my colonoscopy showed cancer 100% so there was no worry about a mis-diagnosis. I was in the far more common situation where I had anal bleeding and my general practitioner said it was hemorrhoids and six months later…
Do you know if they saw any polyps or inflammation? The good news is there was no cancer, but you will have to work with a gastroenterologist to identify the cause- it is possible she has IBS, Chron’s, or something else. Please keep following up until you get answers- the unknown is scary when you know something is not right.
Was it a contrast CT scan? Did she have a CEA test?
Not all anal bleeding is due to cancer. It could be something else as @hopenjoy2024 has mentioned.
Was it bright red blood or dark red or black tarry stools? Red is intestinal bleeding or hemorrhoids. Dark or tarry stools is stomach bleeding.
Ask for an endoscopy to check the stomach and esophagus condition. I did and had a bleeding stomach polyp and inflammation but it was benign. I always get an endoscopy/ colonoscopy at the same time. My last one found a precancerous polyp in my ascending colon of the fast growing most deadly kind. I didn’t have any symptoms at all.
Bleeding shouldn’t be ignored for any reason. Talk to your doctor about it again and maybe get a second opinion
My colonoscopy missed my anal cancer. The colorectal surgeon uses an analscope to see that area. She said colonoscopy often misses anal cancer because the camera is at the end of the scope, the anal scope has a camera on the side. If you are concerned, maybe that would be a route to try. She also felt the cancer on exam.
I have severe pain around my belly button, have very few bowel movements, have had blood , since 2021 I have multiple CT SCAN, X-rays, 3 colonoscopies, 3 EGD and still have no answers. I had two tubular adenomas in traverse colon and ascending colon. On EGD had polyps in my stomach. Here it is 2025 I still no answers for it. I can’t eat or drink anything with out severe pain, if I drink water it hurts. So I know how it feels to get no answers!
